1) Egyptian-Jordanian summit for reactivating ME peace process

President Hosni Mubarak held a session of talks with King Abdullah II of Jordan, in these talks they have agreed on the broad lines of Arab moves for reactivating the peace process in the Middle East, the efforts of Egypt to unify Palestinian ranks and hosting rounds of Palestinian national dialogue. Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit said following the meeting at a press conference with his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Gouda that the summit asserted that we were not in need of an open-ended peace process or a new peace march but rather in need of sincere and direct negotiations which aim at establishing the Palestinian state and reaching a just and comprehensive solution to all issues of the region. President Mubarak and King Abdullah were in agreement about the broad lines of peace efforts and Arab action on this score, he added. The two leaders also probed the Arab approach with the US administration over peace especially in light of the coming visit of President Mubarak to the US and visits to Washington, he added. King Abdullah briefed the President Mubarak on his recent visit to the US and the proposals he put forth to the American side on the Arab stance urging commitment to the Arab Peace Initiative and the two-state solution, Abul-Gheit said. Meanwhile, President Mubarak received US Defence Secretary Robert Gates who said all former US administrations have benefited from President Mubarak's experience in the Middle East issues. He hailed Mubarak's efforts to shore up the peace process and to establish security and stability in the region. He said he had fruitful and important meeting with President Mubarak, adding that Washington benefits from the Egyptian leadership experience and advice in making headway towards many files such as the Palestinian cause, the developments in Iraq, the Iranian nuclear file and expanding cooperation with Middle East countries.

2) Egyptian-Italian summit dealt with ME peace process

President Mubarak held an expanded session of talks with visiting Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi which took up means of promoting relations and cooperation in all fields.
Talks between the two leaders dealt with supporting and promoting cooperation between Egypt and Italy in various fields especially increasing the size of trade exchange, Italian investments in Egypt. President Mubarak, in a speech he delivered at the start of the joint press conference with Berlusconi, said his talks with the visiting Italian premier dealt with the regional situation in the Middle East with emphasis on the peace process and the recent security developments in the Gulf region and the situation in Darfur and Somalia. President Mubarak and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi witnessed the signing of 22 cooperation agreements and MoUs between Egypt and Italy. Italian Ambassador in Cairo Claudio Pacifico said that the agreements cover various domains including energy, transportation, culture, legal immigration, debts, developmental projects in health and agriculture

3) Mubarak: Peace is made by strong, brave leaders

President Hosni Mubarak affirmed that peace can be only achieved by strong and brave leaders who are able to take difficult decisions and capable of honoring their obligations.
Addressing a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after their meeting in Sharm El-Sheikh, Mubarak said the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty which was signed three decades ago affirmed that peace is not impossible. Mubarak welcomed Netanyahu in this Red Sea resort, expressing satisfaction with the "frank and constructive" consultations he had with the Israeli premier on peace issues. For his part, Netanyahu said he came to Sharm El-Sheikh to voice the new Israeli government's appreciation for Egypt and President Mubarak. He said that Mubarak was exerting every possible effort to achieve peace in the region. Netanyahu said after his meeting with Mubarak that he viewed peace with Egypt as a "strategic asset, the cornerstone of stability and hope in the region". Regarding talks with the Palestinians, Netanyahu said, "We want to renew peace talks between us and the Palestinians as soon as possible, and I hope that they are renewed in the coming weeks." "The peace between us (Israel and Egypt) has existed for more than 30 years and has withstood the test of time," Netanyahu said, "We wish to expand it, first of all to our neighbors the Palestinians. We want Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side with a horizon of peace, security and prosperity.", he added. He said he came to Egypt to "strengthen the connection between Israel and the largest and most important Arab country." He added that he also came to strengthen the connection between the " Jewish people and the large Arab nation." Netanyahu said that the Jewish people "want harmonious relations with the Moslem world."

4) Israel's non-commitment of NPT threatens regional peace, security

Egypt has affirmed that Israel's rejection of effective world arrangements to guarantee the safety of non-nuclear states and its continued development of non-peaceful nuclear activities, far away from the surveillance of International Atomic Energy Agency, threaten the Middle East of armament race which mollifies the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its role in achieving world peace and security.Ambassador Maged Abdulfattah Egypt's UN delegation said in his statement during discussions of the conference review of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty that Arab stance on the NPT came in line with the Arab peace treaty in 2002.
He affirmed that Israel's rejection to the Arab initiative and the two state solutions as well as its rejection to join the NPT and subjecting all its nuclear facilities to International Atomic Energy Agency surveillance represent the main obstacles before reaching regional world peace and security.

5) Gabali: Egypt is free from H1N1 flu

 

Minister of Health Dr. Hatem al-Gabali said no H1N1 cases have so far been detected in Egypt adding the Ministry is following a transparent policy. He said if any case was detected, it would report immediately. He said Egypt has enough quantities of Tamiflu drug adding no state can prevent H1N1 virus from reaching its territories. The swine flu can spread in any place in the world, Hatem el-Gabali said at the end of an Arab health ministerial meeting in Riyadh on the disease.Talks dwelt on exchanging expertise and data on H1N1 flu, he said.
