1- Egyptian-Cypriot Summit to discuss regional situation, bilateral ties
President Mubarak and Cypriot President Demetris Christofias held summit talks at the presidential palace dealing with regional developments and ways of enhancing bilateral relations.
In a joint declaration on the occasion of the visit of Cypriot President Demetris Cristofias, President Hosni Mubarak and Christofias underlined the depth of friendship between the peoples of the two countries, and hailed the deeply-rooted relations between Egypt and Cyprus in all fields.
Meanwhile, the two Presidents underlined their willingness to intensify their political consultations at all levels, and to boost their economic cooperation in all fields of mutual concern.
Moreover, the two Presidents also expressed the desire to hold more regular meetings between the foreign ministers of Egypt and Cyprus alternately, exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest and examine means to enhance bilateral cooperation.
In addition, the two countries will promote the implementation of joint projects and programs in the framework of the Barcelona Process, the Union for the Mediterranean as well as the bilateral level, read the declaration.
Cyprus will support Egyptian endeavors to upgrade its relations with the European Union and will contribute to strengthen the dialogue between Egypt and the European Union.
Egypt will contribute to
further enhancing the dialogue between Cyprus and the Arab League.
Furthermore, Egypt welcomes the decision taken by the President of Cyprus
and the Leader of the Turkish Cypriots to start the process of negotiations
toward achieving a comprehensive just and viable settlement in Cyprus based
on international legitimacy, the Charter of the United Nations and the
relevant United Nations resolutions, said the declaration
2- PM: Egypt overcomes first shock of financial crisis aftermath
Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Nazif said the new state general budget of the
fiscal year 2009-2010 will include appropriations for financing the social
increment which has been ordered by President Mubarak. In the statement he
gave before the People's Assembly's session , Nazif said that the general
budget which has been referred to the People's Assembly included an increase
of the appropriations of wages, and spending on education and health.
Meantime, Nazif stressed the strength of national economy and its capability
to absorb the first shock of the global financial crisis starting seven
months ago.
He said there was no inflation in the Egyptian economy as in many countries
of the world. He said the government is keen to keep annual growth rate at
not less than 4%.
3- Egypt's Mufti: Dialogue of civilizations must be on scientific bases
Egyptian Mufti Ali Gomaa underscored the need to open dialogue between religions and Eastern civilizations on scientific bases. Receiving a senior Singaporean delegation led by Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Yaacob Ibrahim, the Mufti said Egypt is prepared to provide Singapore's Islamic institutions with all kinds of aid and support.
