Bibliotheca Alexandrina in 5 years; In October 2007 the Bibliotheca Alexandrina celebrated its 5th anniversary with great accomplishments. The project of re-building Bibliotheca Alexandrina has succeeded in reviving the role of the old one in the new century, as the library managed to be the world's window to Egypt and Egypt's window to the world. It has further played a pioneering role in the new digital era and became an education center spreading dialogue and understanding between peoples and cultures. Bibliotheca Alexandrina succeeded during the last 5 years to become partner for unique world libraries including: Congress Library which is the biggest digital library in the world and IFLA. Number of visitors is about one million annually from children, youth, tourists, students, researchers and famous international figures. There are 35 Friendship Associations in 30 countries worldwide to promote and support the library.
31st Cairo International Film Festival ; The "31st Cairo International Film Festival" (CIFF) that was inaugurated on November 27, 2007 witnessed great gathering as 55 Arab and foreign countries took part in the event. This year festival celebrated the centennial anniversary of the Egyptian cinema and 80 years Egypt's first movie was produced.

World appreciations to Egyptian intellectuals
The year 2007 witnessed great appreciation on the part of world cultural organizations to the Egyptian figures who contributed to the enrichment of the world culture.
The 2007 Mediterranean Prize was granted to the great writer Linin Al-Ramli for his play "Take masks off". The Russian Cultural Center in Cairo honored the celebrated director Youssef Shahein, considering him the first to direct joint Egyptian-Russian movie since 47 years. The movie that entitled "The People and the Nile" echoed high in the field and harvested the Russian culture medal.
Egypt further won the chairmanship of the Arab publishers federation in the election held in February 2007, as Publisher Mohamed Abdul Lateif won the title. Children's literature prize was given to Mohamed Ali Ahmed. The outstanding writer Tharwat Okasha won Sheikh Zayed prize for arts on his book "The Indian Arts". Anneis Mansour also was granted the Arab medal of innovation in appreciation to his role in boosting Arab information march. These examples are but a few of those who were granted international prizes for beefing up cultural life in general.
The year 2007 also witnessed great moves on the part of the State, such as the Republican Decree to establish national center for translation. Egyptian-German year for science and technology was launched.
