Biography

 

    Abderahman Salaheldin, born July 12, 1958, was appointed Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Turkey in March 2010. Previous to this appointment, he served from September 2008-March 2010 Assistant Egyptian Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs.

    Ambassador Salaheldin previously served from 2004-2008 as Consul General of Egypt  to the United States of America, San Francisco, covering the states of Arizona, Alaska, California, Idaho, Washington, Utah, Montana, Oregon, Nevada, Hawaii and Wyoming.

    August 2002-2004 Deputy Assistant Minister Of Foreign Affairs for North America, Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    1998-2002 Minister Plenipotentiary for Political and Congressional Affairs, Embassy of Egypt, Washington, D.C.

    1996 - 1998 Director, UN Affairs, Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    1992 - 1996 Political Counselor, The Permanent Mission of Egypt to the UN in New York, dealing with Middle East and Peace keeping issues and served as the Rapporteur of the UN Peace Keeping Committee.

    1991 - 1992 Member of the Cabinet of the Egyptian Foreign Minister and of Egypt’s delegation to the “Madrid Middle East Peace Conference” and “Moscow’s Conference on Middle East Regional Cooperation”.

    1986 - 1991 First Secretary, Embassy of Egypt, Washington, D.C.,

    1983 - 1986 Officer-in-charge of Disarmament Affairs with the Department of International Organizations, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    1981 - 1983 Member of the Cabinet of the Assistant Foreign Minister for Israel’s Affairs, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    1981 - 1980 Member of the Policy Planning Department, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
 

    Ambassador Salaheldin holds a Bachelor Degree in Political Science, 1979, Cairo University. He is married to Dr. Thoraya Elkhadrawy (Endocrinologist). They have Two twin sons, Khalid and Waleed who are seniors at UC Berkeley.
